Create an Agent¶
Create an agent with a name and one sandbox. An agent is an AI worker that uses one sandbox for its models, packages, tools and hosts. See Agents and sessions.
What You Need¶
- A sandbox in your workspace. See Create a sandbox.
Create the Agent¶
- In the workspace sidebar, open Agents. If the sidebar shows Back to top, you are in Workspace settings. Select Back to top first. The Agents page opens.
- Select New agent. The dialog New agent opens.
- Enter an Agent name, for example
my-first-agent. Use lowercase letters, numbers and hyphens. The name has 32 characters at most and you cannot change it later. - Open Sandbox and choose the sandbox you created.
- Leave Immutable skills and Custom instructions empty. Both are optional extras. See Skills.
- Leave Persistent memory off. This switch lets the agent save facts and journal entries across sessions.
- Select Create agent.
The message Agent created appears. The new agent shows the status Progressing in the table.
Wait for the Status to Change to Idle¶
- Stay on the Agents page. The table updates by itself.
- Wait. AgentZ installs the sandbox packages first, then starts the agent. This is why the status does not change at once.
- Watch the Status column until it shows Idle. Idle means the agent is ready.
Check It Worked¶
- The Status of your agent is Idle.
- The Name column shows the name you chose.
If It Does Not Work¶
- The dialog shows Use lowercase letters, numbers, and hyphens. Change the Agent name.
- The dialog shows Create a sandbox here before continuing. No sandbox exists yet. Go back to Create a sandbox.
- The error Tenant Agent quota exceeded appears on a self-hosted install. The default limit is 2 agents for each organization.
