Build Your First Workflow

First you do a small task once in chat. Then you ask the agent to save it as a workflow and you run it from a schedule. In the task, the agent lists the files in its home folder and writes a summary file.

You need a working agent in a General purpose workspace. See Send your first chat message.

Do the Task Once in Chat

  1. Select New chat and choose your agent.
  2. Send this message:

List the files in your home folder and write a one-paragraph summary to summary.txt.

The agent replies that it wrote summary.txt.

Ask the Agent to Save the Workflow

  1. Send this message:

Create a workflow called home-summary that does this task.

The agent confirms that it saved the workflow home-summary. If the name exists, the agent reports a conflict.

Read the Graph

  1. Select Workflows in the workspace sidebar.
  2. Pick your agent in Agent and home-summary in Workflow. The Graph tab shows nodes joined by edges.
  3. Click a node. A panel shows its goal, Instructions and Done criteria.

The page says "No workflows available for" your agent name when the save failed. Go back and ask the agent again. See Workflows for the parts of a node.

Add a Schedule

  1. Select Triggers in the workspace sidebar.
  2. Pick your agent in Agent and select New schedule.
  3. Enter the name home-summary-daily, pick the workflow home-summary, and enter the schedule 0 6 * * *.
  4. Leave Time zone on UTC. The workflow has no inputs, so the sheet shows "No runtime inputs". Select Create schedule.

The message "Schedule created" appears. The schedule runs the workflow at 06:00 UTC every day. See Schedules for every field.

Press Run and Read the Run

  1. Click the row menu of home-summary-daily and select Run.
  2. Select Run in the dialog. The message "Workflow started" appears and Workflow runs opens.
  3. Watch the Status column. It changes from Pending to Running to Succeeded.
  4. Click the run. The graph shows the status and the elapsed time of each node.
  5. Click the run menu and select Open session. A new tab shows what the agent did.

A Failed or Unacked status means the run did not finish cleanly. Read the session to see where it stopped.

Delete the Schedule

The schedule starts a run each day until you delete it. Click the row menu of home-summary-daily on Triggers and select Delete. Select Delete in the dialog. The message "Schedule deleted" appears. The saved workflow stays.
