Sandbox Packages

Packages decide which programs an agent can run. You choose them in the sandbox wizard. See Sandboxes for what a sandbox is.

Add Packages in the Sandbox Wizard

Open Workspace settings → Sandboxes and select Add sandbox. The wizard has six steps: Identity, Packages, MCP, Skills, Models and Allowed hosts. To change an existing sandbox, see Update a Sandbox.

  1. Enter a Name on Identity, then select Next until you reach the Packages step.
  2. Type a name in Search packages.... AgentZ searches the Nix package collection, for example ripgrep or nodejs_22.
  3. Select Select on a result. The button changes to Selected.

A sandbox includes a Required set that you cannot remove: gnused, gawk, gnugrep, bc, jq, yq-go, curl, mcporter, python3 and nodejs. Add what the agent needs on top.

Update a Sandbox

Every agent that uses a sandbox picks up its changes. Add or remove packages the same way.

  1. Open Workspace settings → Sandboxes.
  2. Open the menu on the sandbox row and select Edit. The Update sandbox page opens.
  3. Change the packages, hosts or other steps. The name stays fixed.
  4. Select Update sandbox. The toast reads Sandbox updated.

AgentZ rebuilds each agent that uses the sandbox. If you changed packages or hosts, it installs them first. On the Agents page, the agent shows Progressing, then Idle.

Warning

A running agent restarts when you update its sandbox. Wait for Idle before you send a chat message.
