Agents and Sessions

An agent is an AI worker that uses one sandbox. A session is one chat between you and one agent.

An Agent Has One Sandbox and a Fixed Name

You give an agent a name and a sandbox when you create it. The name cannot change later. You can swap the sandbox in Update agent.

You can add Immutable skills and Custom instructions to an agent. Both are optional. Immutable skills are versioned skills that you upload. See Skills. The agent uses the models, packages, tools and hosts of its sandbox. See Sandboxes.

The Agents table shows the status of each agent. The quickstart uses two statuses:

  • Progressing: AgentZ is installing packages or starting the agent.
  • Idle: the agent is ready.

An Agent Keeps Its Files Between Runs

The home directory of an agent is /home/agentz. It persists when the agent restarts. The /tmp directory does not persist.

Secrets belong to one agent. See Secrets.

Persistent Memory Is Optional

The Persistent memory switch lets the agent save facts and journal entries across sessions. It is off by default. A Coding workspace has no persistent memory.

A Session Is One Chat With One Agent

You start a session with New chat and choose an agent. The agent is locked for that chat. Your chats appear in the sidebar. Select Search chats above the list to find one.

A workflow is a saved series of steps that an agent builds in chat. A workflow run creates its own session on the agent. See Workflows.
